Safe data banking
Replacing a lost or stolen laptop, thumb drive or PDA often is just the beginning of a personal or professional nightmare. The data on those devices could provide the keys to the castle for thieves and other con artists.
Kroll Fraud Solutions, an identity theft prevention firm, has tips for anyone planning to stay connected on the road this summer:
Store the secret stuff: Transfer your laptop's most sensitive data to a secure central server before taking a trip, or move it to a disk that can be safely stored until you get home.
Gold thumb: If you must bring sensitive data with you, consider purchasing an encrypted thumb drive to store data securely.
Watch out with Wi-Fi: Make sure you use secure wireless networks that will keep data secure from uninvited hackers.
